Cash Management:
One Exposure from Operations
SAP Help
REC_N, regular receivable
PAY_N, regular payable
SI_CIT, self-initiated cash in transit
ACTUAL
Certainty level
Liquidity item
Planning level/group
Source application
Flow Builder
Cash Management.
One Exposure.

Cash Management: Cash Flow Lineage and Transformation#
One Exposure from Operations collects operational data relevant to cash and liquidity management. It is not just a copy of the bank balance: integrated sources create cash flows with a type, date, liquidity item, certainty level, and reference to the originating transaction.
S/4HANA On-Premise can receive FI documents, end-of-day and intraday statements, procurement, sales, TRM, FI-CA, loans, payment requests, memo records, and other activated sources. Real-time integration in one system and periodic side-by-side exchange with a remote system are different integration patterns.
Activating the source application for a company is part of configuration. FI and MM require cash flow generation through Flow Builder. In addition to new operations, a separate initial load or rebuild can be needed for data created before source activation.
A flow type describes the cash meaning of a line and its place in the lifecycle; Flow Builder uses it when creating cash flows. For FI, types help distinguish receivables/payables, cash in transit, confirmed bank amounts, and other categories. Do not assign a type manually based only on a line's appearance: check derivation rules and G/L account mapping.
A certainty level is a classification assigned based on source and process. An open item, an initiated payment, and a confirmed bank amount are different states. Certainty is not a probability score and does not prove that funds were actually received.
File import, presenting statement items in Cash Management, and accounting posting are separate steps. For end-of-day statements, SAP S/4HANA On-Premise documents the transfer of statement lines to One Exposure: source BS, bank-account identification from company code, house bank, and house bank account, and flow date and amount from statement-line attributes. Transfer depends on source activation and transfer mode at company-code and bank-account levels.
The documentation describes different variants: show accounting flows only, transfer statement lines before posting and later use accounting flows, or use statement lines in a scenario without subsequent posting. Enabling alternative paths at the same time can create duplicates. Compare transfer mode, posting category, source application, original line key, and posting status. A successful import alone does not prove the line reached the intended cash report.
If a statement line is reversed, reposted, or processed again, trace the original identifier, reversal or reposting document, and linked One Exposure records through a process supported by the target release. Do not manually delete or create a forecast before identifying which step produced the original and current records.
Plan, expectation, and actual: one event moves through stages#
A payment can appear successively in planning and accounting. That does not mean every representation should be added to the previous one. For reconciliation, link the stages to the original document, company code, currency, amount, date, payment reference, and source-system identifier.
Lifecycle stage
SAP Help example
How to read it
Open receivable
REC_N, regular receivable
Forecast receipt, not proof that cash arrived
Open payable
PAY_N, regular payable
Forecast payment that may move to a payment stage
Initiated payment
SI_CIT, self-initiated cash in transit
Cash in transit; not the same as a confirmed bank movement
Accounting document item representing cash
ACTUAL
Actual representation in the Cash Management accounting source; reconcile it to the statement and posting process
Example: a supplier invoice for 120 currency units creates an expected payment; a payment operation may represent the amount in transit; the bank statement and its accounting representation confirm the actual stage. In an aggregate, these records should form the history of one event, not three independent payments totaling 360. For a partial payment, reconcile the paid and remaining amounts separately. All amounts in this example are synthetic.
Do not assume a universal replacement or deletion of a forecast just because its category changes. Establish which document or integration step creates each record, how references and identifiers connect, and how the system handles the original forecast after later confirmation. Parallel statement-ingestion paths can also create duplicates.
Which cash meaning or lifecycle stage is assigned to the flow
Certainty level
How the source and process classify a forecast; it is not a statistical probability
Liquidity item
Which liquidity category the flow belongs to in the adopted model
Planning level/group
How the flow is classified and grouped for planning and presentation
Source application and document reference
Where the record came from and which originating event it represents
Before comparing amounts, record the values and determination rules for these fields in the target release. Matching flow types do not prove that two rows are different events; matching amounts do not prove that they are duplicates.
For a particular flow, record source application, original system, originating-document reference, flow type, company, currency, amount, date, liquidity item, planning level/group, and certainty level. Then trace the chain:
The originating business document or statement line.
Determination of cash-relevant category and flow type.
Flow Builder or another documented integration path.
The One Exposure from Operations record and its origin identifier.
Filters, hierarchies, and grouping in the Cash Management application.
If a flow is missing, diagnose in order and record the result of each check:
Fix company, bank account, currency, date, application, filters, and expected amount; distinguish a missing report line from a missing One Exposure record.
Check that the selected source is supported in this edition and activated for the company.
For a statement, compare the import ID, statement line, Posting Category, Transfer Mode, posting status, and bank keys.
For FI/MM, check the input document, flow-type assignment rule, and Flow Builder result; confirm any required initial or subsequent data load separately.
For a found record, compare original system, source document, date, currency, flow type, certainty level, liquidity item, and planning level.
Check profile, hierarchy, period, and report filters. Check duplicate transfers and competing paths separately.
For each step, retain the checked identifier or screen/log, expected result, and observed result. Do not change settings until you have located the transition where the record disappeared. When the original system changes, old records may not update automatically; rebuilding requires a separate controlled process.
Flow type, liquidity item, planning level, and grouping assignments can change existing flows after a standard rebuild. First test on a limited selection and compare document counts and values by source. Do not adjust a Cash Management total until the specific transition where the source was lost, changed, or duplicated has been located.
